A functional mobile plan is among the various things that will help a person when they visit a different country.Â
This is why many people in Ireland look for a mobile plan with dedicated roaming data. Some also choose to buy a local SIM card in the country they’re visiting.Â
If you’re a Lyca Mobile customer, you don’t have to worry about buying an additional roaming plan. All prepaid plans offer separate roaming data that can be used in the EU, Ukraine, and Moldova.Â
But sometimes, things may not work as intended.Â
We’re here to resolve it. This blog talks about the common reasons why you may be running into roaming issues and the steps to fix them.Â
What is Data Roaming?
Data roaming is when you use your data/mobile services outside your home network’s coverage area.Â
Simply put, with data roaming, you can access the internet using your Lyca Mobile number outside Ireland.Â
You’ll need separate data allocation to do so, as using mobile services without valid benefits will result in exorbitant roaming charges.Â

Common Reasons EU Roaming Stops WorkingÂ
As said earlier, all Lyca Mobile prepaid plans come with a pre-allocated quota of roaming data. This way you don’t have to buy a local SIM card when you visit any country in the EU and still enjoy high-speed data.Â
You may face issues at times. And when you do, it’s often because of these three reasons:Â
- Data roaming is disabled on your smartphoneÂ
- Your smartphone has the incorrect network modeÂ
- You have run out of the allocated roaming dataÂ
The next section talks about how to rectify these issues.Â
How to Fix Data Roaming Issues on Your Lyca Mobile PlanÂ
Troubleshooting data roaming issues on your Lyca Mobile plan is simple and straightforward. Here is how you fix them.Â
Data Roaming is Disabled on Your SmartphoneÂ
This is often the most common reason why data roaming may not work in the EU. Simply enable it, and you’re done!Â
How to Enable Data Roaming on AndroidÂ
Head to Settings > Mobile Networks and tap on the Data Roaming slider. You will now be able to use your dedicated roaming data when you’re in the EU, Ukraine and Moldova.Â
Note that these settings are for Samsung devices. If you have a different phone manufacturer, then you may either see Connections or Network & Internet. You can also just open the settings app and search for “Roaming” or “Data Roaming” to access the option.Â
How to Enable Data Roaming on iOSÂ
Head to Settings > Mobile Data > Mobile Data Options and tap on the Data Roaming slider. You have now enabled data roaming on your iPhone.Â
Depending on the region of purchase, the Mobile Data option can either be Mobile Service or Cellular.Â
Your Smartphone Has the Incorrect Network ModeÂ
There are two network modes, National and International, that you can choose between. The “National” network mode is used when you want to connect to Irish networks. Â
Here is how you can manually configure the network to use roaming benefits in the EU.Â
Head to Settings > Lyca Services/SIM Tool Kit > Lyca Mobile > Mode > Manual. Here, change the option from National to International, and then restart your device.Â
You should be able to use your roaming data and other benefits now.Â
Don’t forget to change the option back to National when you’ve returned to Ireland.Â
You Have Run Out of the Allocated Data
There is a chance that you may have run out of your allocated roaming data, and your account doesn’t have sufficient credits to use data at standard rates. In such instances, your best bet would be to top up credit or pick a different plan.Â
If Everything Fails
Your data roaming issues should be because of one of the three reasons mentioned above.Â
However, in the rare occasion that these troubleshooting tips don’t work, then you should get technical assistance.Â
